About Me and My Specialties

My interest in the field of massage began with the aches and pains I experienced while working in a construction trade. Later when I saw the many benefits my wife received from massage, I became interested in bringing others these benefits. I am a licensed Massage Therapist (you may verify my license here) with over 8 years of experience. A graduate of the Virginia School of Massage. My certification is with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

I use several modalities, including swedish and deep tissue massage and myofascial release.

Swedish Massage refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood to the heart.

Swedish Massage increases circulation, stretches the ligaments and tendons, stimulates the skin and nervous system and reduces stress, both emotional and physical. It is suggested in a regular program for stress management.

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layer of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Chair/Seated Massage is a massage given while a person sits in a specially designed chair. This massage chair is designed so you can sit in it with your chest facing a platform, knees bent and feet supported on foot rests, leaving your entire back exposed. This allows the me to work on the entire back body, back of the head, neck and spine. The person receiving the massage remains fully clothed, making chair massage very easy to do.

Sports Massage is designed to help atheletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion. Sports massage is a type of Swedish massage that stimulates circulation of blood and lymph fluids. Some sports massage movements use trigger point therapy to break down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increase range of motion.

Myofascial Release uses techniques to release tensions and tightness in the connective tissues. It helps promote better circulation in the body and promotes increased flexibility and improved range of motion.

When muscle fibers are injured, the fascia which surrounds them becomes short and tight. This uneven stress can be transmitted through the fascia to other parts of the body, causing pain and a variety of other symptoms in areas you wouldn’t expect. Myofascial Release treats these symptoms by releasing the uneven tightness in injured fascia.

Trigger Point is a hyperirritable spot that is painful. It is called a trigger point because it "triggers" a painful response. But a trigger point is more than a tender nodule. It affects not only the muscle where the trigger point is located, but also causes "referred pain" in tissues supplied by nerves.Trigger points are located in a taut band of muscles fibers. The trigger point is the most tender point in the band. I locate and deactivate them using finger pressure.
